Perugia is the capital city of the region of Umbria in central Italy and the capital of the province of Perugia.  Perugia is a notable artistic center of Italy. The famous painter Pietro Vannucci, nicknamed Perugino, was a native of Città della Pieve near Perugia. He decorated the local Sala del Cambio with a beautiful series of frescoes. Umbria is also home to the Umbria jazz festival that takes place in July every year,  over the years the Umbria Jazz festival has attracted many of the world's most famous jazz musicians.
